September 11, 1862 - March 13, 1907

Bronson Pilot, March 21, 1907
Emily Susanna Mason was born Sept. 11, 1862, in Rockford Valley, Bourbon Co., Kansas. Died at her home near Bronson, Kan. Mar., 13, 1907. She was married to Erastus Pool Feb. 16, 1882. To this union were born seven children, six boys and one girl. The girl and one boy died in infancy. The living children are Odie who is married and lives near his father's; Pearl aged 20, Earnest 15, Roy 7, and Bertie 2. All were at her bedside except Pearl who had just left for Washington and could not be located in time to reach here, and is all unconscious of the sadness in his home and that he has lost his best earthly friend.
She leaves besides her children a husband, four brothers, four sisters
and a host of friends to mourn her loss. Her sickness lasted only 12 days
and though loving friends and neighbors did all they could to keep her here it was of no avail. God said, "Come home."
Her death was caused by abscess on the liver and though she suffered so
much was not heard to murmur or complain. She was converted at the age of
sixteen and joined the Presbyterian Church, and at the time of her death
was a member of the M.E. Church at South Fairview. She was a devoted wife
and mother, thinking more of home than any thing else, a loving and kind
friend and neighbor and a consistant Christian.
She was a member of the Royal Neighbors Lodge.
On Thursday morning the funeral was preached at Rockford Valley Church by Rev. Wood who paid a loving tribute to the life she had lived, and the remains were followed by a large number of friends to the Mason Cemetery where they were laid to rest so near the home where she was born and raised.
The community join in extending their deepest sympathy to this family in this hour of deepest gloom, and may they be able to look up, and catch some ray of light eternal, and get some consolation from the sympathetic Friend who said, "I am the resurrection and the life."
