Obituary
Freda A Shafer, 78, homemaker, died Tuesday December 14, 1999 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus in Wichita. She was the mother of Roxie Truan of Newton.
She was born January 3, 1921, in rural Sheridan County to Raymond and Ella Walden Shipley. She married Howard E Shafer September 14, 1941, in Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Studley. He preceded her in death December 3, 1999.
She was a 1939 graduate of Jennings High School in Jennings.
She taught at rural Sheridan County School for three years while her husband served in the armed forces.
She attended Church of the Brethren in Quinter. She was a member of Quinter Senior Center and served as board treasurer for four years in Quinter. She also was a Saline Valley 4-H project leader and served on the Sheridan County fair board.
Other survivors include: another daughter, Carol Hartman of Park; two sisters, Margie Minium and Gladys Woofter, both of Hoxie; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald Shipley and Ross Shipley.
