Rutherford TENNYSON

Hatch Cemetery
Bourbon County,
Kansas

January 14, 1804 - April 18, 1872

Rutherford Tennyson was married 5 times:
1. Rhody Whitfield...Marriage Record for Rhody Whitfield and Rutherford Tennison found in Rutherford County, Tennessee 17 Dec 1822. On the back of the record, it says the marriage was solemnized January the second 1823 by H. Robinson. She died after having four sons...James Dennis, John Wesley, Joseph W., and Levi L. She died about 1833/34.

2. Ann Banning...The marriage record in Shelby County, Illinois said the actual date was unclear but the year was 1835. They had three children...Rhoda Ann, Hiram, and Martha Jane. She died in 1850.

3. Nancy Wilson Everett...She was widowed (Isaac Barton Everett) in 1849 and married Rutherford in 1851-52. Their only child, Nancy Caroline is said to have been born in 1952 after her parents separated and young Nancy took her mother's last name of Everett.

4. Mary Tabitha Cuma Robinson...They married about 1854. Their only daughter, Mary Temperance Tennyson, was born May 16, 1855 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Mary T. C.'s name is on Rutherford's headstone in Hatch Cemetery near Uniontown, Kansas.

5. Sarah Daniels Percival...She married Rutherford after her husband Edwin died. She is listed on the 1860 and 1870 census as his wife. She evidently stuck it out with Rutherford and died two years after he did in Denison, Texas, where her son Taylor lived.

Rutherford was a Clergyman. It has taken several years and help from other relatives of all these wives to get this sorted out. Hopefully it is all accurate now.

The 5 generation photo includes Rutherford, grandson James WILLIS, and son John Wesley, and Rutherfords's great-granddaughter Delta Tennyson Morris and her son Ralph Marvin Morris. It was taken about the summer 1902.
