Andrew Franklin [F. A.] Prouty died this morning at eleven O'Clock at his home 507 West Broadway following complications of old age which have kept him an invalid for more than a year. The funeral service will be held at the Spinker Mortuary on Monday afternoon, May 6 at 2:30 O'Clock, conducted by the Rev. Harold Dickens. Old friends chosen by the deceased will act as pall bearers and they are Andrew Dart, Henry Gardner, Fawn Manring, M. E. Walace, J. P. Oliver and Henry Spratt. Interment will be in Greenwood cemetery by the side of his wife who died in 1889. Friends may see Mr. Prouty at the Sprinker Mortuary until the hour of services.With the passing of Mr. Prouty one of the pioneers of the county is taken. He was born and reared in New Boston, Ill., and in that place was united in marriage on Sept 14, 1865 to Ida Clark. Seven years after his marriage he brought his family to Harvey county and settled on a farm in Macon township in company with others of his family. The Prouty families west of town have been a group that has helped to turn the barren, virgin prairie land into productive farms. The were steadfastly in favor of those things that would make for a better, finer and more sociable community life. He was the son of the late Amos Prouty , who, like Abraham took his sons and his sons families and went into a new country. F. A. Prouty was one of those sons. Five children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Prouty two of whom survive. They are Mrs. Opal Cummings who made her home with her father and Mrs Jacob Staph of the city. One child died in infancy, Bert passed away in 1918 and Mrs. Orenna Kendall died in 1926. L. A. Prouty and H. W. [Cap] Prouty both living in Harvey county are brothers surviving and Mrs. Lulu Streeter Jefferson Island, Montana is a sister. There are eleven grand children and three great grand children. Mrs Ida F. Prouty died at her home on west Broadway, Saturday, December 15th, 1889, after a lingering illness. She was the wife of F. A. Prouty surviving of the home. The funeral took place Tuesday, the 17th, and was largely attended by sorrowing friends. Newton Kansan Dec. 19,1889. She was the daughter of James and Margaret [Myers] Clark, Mercer county Illinois.
