Caroline Matilda Salling was born in Scott Co., VA, and on 28 July 1823 she married Elisha Rhoton in Scott Co., Virginia. They lived in Jackson Co TN in 1850 and he was a house carpenter. In 1858 they were in Benton Co Missouri and he was a Minister in the Baptist Church. In 1860 he moved his family to Bourbon Co Kansas and lived there until he died. He raised a large family. He had 11 children that were named in his will, Eliza Jane Rhoton (Swearngin), Nancy Rocton (Swearngin), Josiah Rhoton, Malinda Rhoton (Thompson), Elizabeth Rocton (Brown), Hiram W Rocton, Eli Rhoton, Martha A Rocton a twin (Porter), Mary H Rocton a twin, Manerva Rocton, Margaret Rocton. Caroline's parents were George W Salling and Matilda Caroline Carter.
