Clarence died as a Japanese prisoner in Correigor during WWII according to his gravestones in Woods Cemetery. On the WWII Oversees American Cemeteries Website Clarence is buried in the Manila American Cemetery, Fort Bonifacio, Manila, Philippines; Plot N Row 7 Grave 71.

Clarence was the son of Edward Houston and Elva Nichols. When Edward and Elva were divorced, Clarence went to live with his Grandparents, D.R. and Erma Nichols. After his Mother died, Grandpa thought if Clarence was living with them his name should be Nichols....and so it was.

Clarence Nichols Dies In a Jap Prison Camp
Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Nichols of 623 South Wilson received word from the War Department yesterday stating an official report had been received on their grandson, Clarence Nichols, that he died in a Japanese prisoner of war camp in the Philippine Islands on April 30, 1942, as a result of cerebral malaria.

Clarence enlisted in the service in the summer of 1941 and was sent to the Philippines in September of the same year. He was reported missing May 28, 1942. He attended the Fort Scott schools.
