SINGMASTER DIES MONDAY AT AGE OF 88

A former Bourbon County commissioner and township official died Monday (June 9, 1981) at the hospital.

A retired farmer-stockman, Mr. Singmaster had served as county commissioner 14 1/2 years. He was a member of the Southeast Scott Township Board and also had served as township assessor.

He was active in Farm Bureau for more than 50 years and a charter member of the Farmers' Co-op. For many years, he was a member of the rural Diamond School Board and had served as trustee of teh Diamond Community Church. He was a member of the Church of God Holiness.

Born Feb. 14, 1893, at Washington, Iowa, he was the son of A. I. and Clara Brown Singmaster. At the age of five he moved to the Clarksburg Community, where he had continued to live. He married Lottie Viola Query, Aug. 2, 1916 at Fort Scott.

Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Clara Martens, Fort Scott; and Esther Rose Secrest, Englewood, Colo.; two sons, Reece Singmaster, Fort Scott; and Ralph Singmaster, Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Services were held Thursday (June 11, 1981) in the Church of God Holiness with the Rev. John I. Page officiating.

Burial was in Clarksburg Cemetery.

The family received friends on Wednesday at Konantz Chapel.

Mrs. Lottie Viola Singmaster, 79, died Wednesday (May 16, 1973) at Sunny Valley Home.

Born at Kansas City Sept. 22, 1893, she was the daughter of R.B. and Rose McWilliams Query. She married Ralph A. Singmaster on Aug. 2, 1916, in Fort Scott.

Mrs. Singmaster taught school; in Montana, Western Kansas and Bourbon County, and served many years as superintendent of Diamond Church Sunday School. She was a Tribune correspondent for 50 years.

She was a member of the Church of God Holiness, Mary Cissna WCTU, Southeast Scott EHU, Clarksburg Club, a charter leader of Southeast Scott 4-H, and Youth Temperance Council.

Surviving are the husband; daughters, Mrs. Esther Secrest, Englewood, Calif., and Mrs. Dorothy Martens, Fort Scott; two sons, Ralph Singmaster, Jr., Woodland Park, Colo., and Reece Singmaster, Fort Scott; two brothers, L. B. (Dick) Query and Ross Query both of Fort Scott; three sisters, Mrs. Lena Wood, Fort Scott,Mrs. Irene Christy and Mrs. Mildred Wood, Wichita; 14 grandchildren, and nine great-granchildren.

Funeral services were held on Friday at the Konantz Funeral Home. Burial was in Clarksburg Cemetery.

The family received friends at the Konantz Chapel on Thursday evening.
