William Singmaster, 79, of Route 1, died Tuesday afternoon of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. According to the sheriff's office. Singmaster shot himself with a .22-caliber rifle behind the left ear.

Singmaster was born December 8, 1890, in Washington County, Iowa, the son of A.I. and Clara Brown Singmaster. At age 10 he moved with his parents to the Clarksburg community. Following his marriage February 8, 1911 at Garland to Miss Ella Faye Anderson, the couple lived in the Catt Community.

Surviving besides the widow are six children: Mrs. Paul (Faye) Wiley, Sacramento, CA; Clarence Singmaster, Portland, OR; Mrs. Irene Robertson, Tulsa, OK; Mrs. Bill (Wilma) McClain, Overland Park, KS; Kenneth
Singmaster, Pleasant Hill, MO; and Leon Singmaster, Casper, WY. Two brothers, Roy and Ralph of Fort Scott, KS; 16 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Singmaster was a member of the Methodist Church and the Grange. For 35 years he served on the Catt school board. Konantz Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Ella Faye Singmaster, 101, died Tuesday May 21, 1991, at Fort Scott Mercy Hospital. She was born October 2, 1889, at Garland, the daughter of George Washington and Ollie Wenona Drummond Anderson. She married William Manley Singmaster, February 8, 1911, at Garland, He died June 9, 1970.

Mrs. Singmaster became a member of the Methodist church at Garland in 1914 and later changed her membership to the First United Methodist Church upon moving to Fort Scott. She was a charter member of the Clarksburg Club and was active in the Catt Community until she moved to Fort Scott in 1970.

Survivors include three sons, Clarence Singmaster, Portland, OR, Kenneth Singmaster, Pleasant Hill, MO, and Leon Singmaster, Casper, WY,; a daughter, Wilma McClain, Overland Park, KS; 17 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death in 1980 by two daughters, Faye Wiley and Irene Benker; also two brothers and a sister.

The Rev. Bill Hurtig conducted services Thursday May 23, at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home. Burial was in Clarksburg Cemetery.

Memorials were suggested be made to the First United Methodist Church.
